THE BÍO-BÍO VALLEY
The Valley is shaped by water, wind, and pronounced seasonality. In Chile’s south, it sits in a transition zone between Mediterranean and temperate influences, where the year is defined by contrast.
Winter is long, cold, and rain-heavy. Summer turns warm and notably dry. This wet-to-dry, cold-to-warm rhythm sets the pace of the vineyard and gives the valley its clarity—an unmistakable sense of origin that anchors Viña El Pabellón.

FROM FRONTIER TO WINE VALLEY
For centuries, the Biobío River marked a true frontier in Chile’s south. In this landscape—shaped by conflict, resilience, and movement—Spanish defensive posts were established along the river, including the Fuerte de Nacimiento (1603), built at the confluence of the Biobío and Vergara rivers over the site of an earlier Mapuche stronghold.
Just north of Nacimiento lies Millapoa—a name that comes from Mapudungun and is often translated as “belly of gold.” Located along the Biobío River near the mouth of the Huaqui River, it was also the site of the Fuerte Espíritu Santo del Catiray (1585), a reminder of how deeply history is embedded in this valley’s ground. Today, the Biobío is formally recognized as a wine origin within Chile’s southern viticultural region, with the Valle del Bío-Bío denomination including Nacimiento and surrounding communes.
VIÑA EL PABELLÓN
Viña El Pabellón is a family vineyard in Millapoa, Nacimiento. Our family has lived and worked on this land for generations—caring for it season after season, and harvesting the same País vines that have endured here for more than 200 years. They are living heritage, and the foundation of our identity.
Under the cypress that crowns Cerro El Pabellón, we protect what we inherited and expand with intention. In the 1990s, our family planted Cabernet Sauvignon, adding a second voice to the estate. Today, these vines are irrigated with Biobío River water, extracted through solar-powered systems—modern precision aligned with responsible stewardship.
This is Viña El Pabellón: a place shaped by origin, guided by family continuity, and expressed in every bottle.
